India Announces T20 World Cup 2026 Squad Shubman Gill Misses Out

The Indian cricket team has announced its squad for the 2026 T20 World Cup with some surprising selections and notable omissions. Suryakumar Yadav will lead the team with Axar Patel appointed as vice captain. The announcement came after the selection committee meeting in Mumbai chaired by chief selector Ajit Agarkar.
One of the biggest talking points is the exclusion of Shubman Gill. Ajit Agarkar explained that Gill is currently short of runs and that his recent form played a role in the decision. This comes as a disappointment for Gill who has been a key player in India’s T20 setup and had also missed out on the previous World Cup.
The squad includes a blend of experienced match winners and players in form from domestic and international T20 cricket. Ishan Kishan has returned to the team as reserve wicketkeeper behind Sanju Samson while Rinku Singh has earned a place adding depth to the batting lineup. The squad will also participate in the upcoming T20 series against New Zealand to gain match practice ahead of the tournament.
