Indian Government Responds to Bangladesh Participation in T20 World Cup 2026

The Government of India has issued an official statement regarding Bangladesh’s participation in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 which is set to be co hosted by India and Sri Lanka. The statement emphasized that India remains committed to welcoming all teams and ensuring a smooth and secure tournament for players officials and fans. Government sources clarified that any decision about relocating matches or withdrawing from the tournament rests with Bangladesh and the Bangladesh Cricket Board and that India will respond appropriately based on the developments.

This announcement comes after Bangladesh expressed concerns about traveling to India for its scheduled matches citing security issues. The Bangladesh Cricket Board has requested that its games be moved to an alternative venue outside India with Sri Lanka being the preferred option. Officials in Dhaka stated that their concerns focus on player safety as well as the well being of journalists and supporters. The situation intensified following the release of Mustafizur Rahman from an Indian Premier League squad which added tension to the discussions.

The Indian government reiterated that it adheres to international sporting norms and is prepared to host all teams in a safe and fair environment. Any changes to the tournament schedule would require coordination between Bangladesh and the International Cricket Council .
