MELOtea Fest Brings Music Culture and Community Spirit to Darjeeling

MELOtea Fest kicked off in Darjeeling with an energetic music show that transformed the town into a lively celebration of culture and creativity. The festival, held at Chowrasta, attracted locals and visitors alike who came to enjoy live performances and experience the festive atmosphere. Organised with support from the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration, the event highlights Darjeeling’s rich musical heritage and its world famous tea culture while promoting community engagement and tourism.

The opening night featured performances from popular artists including Nepali singer Purna Rai, whose team entertained audiences against the picturesque backdrop of the hills. The festival’s name, a blend of melody and tea, reflects its mission to celebrate both the musical traditions and the tea heritage that define the region. In addition to music performances, the festival includes competitions, cultural programmes, and the Darjeeling Hill Marathon, ensuring a range of activities for visitors throughout the weekend.

A key aspect of this year’s festival is support for local entrepreneurship. Nearly forty start ups from the region have been provided free stalls to showcase their products and connect with festival goers.
