Laura Dern is widely recognized for her iconic role as Dr. Ellie Sattler in Jurassic Park, but few know that her decision to take the part was influenced by a Hollywood legend. At the time she was approached by Steven Spielberg, Dern was hesitant and unsure if a film about dinosaurs was the right choice for her career. She had not yet read the Michael Crichton novel the movie was based on and wanted to consider her options carefully.
Before making a decision, Dern reached out to her Wild at Heart co-star Nicolas Cage for advice. Cage was known for his energy and enthusiasm, and when Dern explained the offer, he immediately encouraged her to accept. He told her that the opportunity to be part of a movie where dinosaurs come to life was extraordinary and that she should not hesitate. His advice and excitement gave Dern the confidence to say yes.
