Anime Finally Demands Its Place at the Oscars

For years the Oscars overlooked anime treating it as a niche interest or foreign curiosity rather than serious cinema. Films like Spirited Away and Your Name were celebrated by audiences worldwide yet struggled to earn recognition from the Academy.

Today that is changing. Anime has proven itself as a powerful medium with storytelling and artistry that rivals live action films. Titles such as Demon Slayer the Movie Mugen Train have broken box office records both in Japan and internationally showing that anime resonates with mass audiences.

The influence of anime is spreading beyond Japan shaping Hollywood films series and streaming content. The Academy can no longer ignore a medium that continues to innovate and captivate viewers around the globe.
