Honda has revealed the first look at its new power unit that will compete in the 2026 Formula One season powering the Aston Martin team. This launch marks Honda's full return as a works engine supplier and highlights the Japanese manufacturer’s commitment to the sport under the new technical regulations. Fans now have their first glimpse of the powertrain that will define Aston Martin's performance and strategy throughout the season.
The new unit has been developed to meet sweeping changes in Formula One regulations which include a greater emphasis on hybrid technology and sustainable fuels. The internal combustion engine remains a 1.6 litre V6 but with a much larger contribution from electric power. The balance between engine and electric motor output has shifted to create a more efficient and environmentally friendly powertrain while maintaining the performance expected in Formula One.
Initial images of the power unit have been shared along with short sound clips allowing fans to experience the engine’s unique characteristics before it hits the track. The full technical presentation is scheduled to take place in Tokyo on January 20 where Honda engineers and the Aston Martin team will provide detailed insights into the design philosophy and objectives for the new season. Pre season testing will follow in Barcelona later in January giving the first real chance to see the engine perform in live conditions.
Honda’s return as a full supplier is a major milestone for Aston Martin as the team aims to compete at the sharp end of the grid.
