McLaren Shares Insight on F1 2026 Suspension Debate as Cadillac and Alpine Take Different Path

McLaren has weighed in on the ongoing suspension debate ahead of the 2026 Formula One season as teams prepare their new cars for testing. The focus is on the choice between pushrod and pullrod suspension, which has become a key decision under the new technical regulations. McLaren emphasizes that the optimal suspension setup depends on how it integrates with a team’s aerodynamic design rather than following a single best approach.

Most teams including Red Bull, Mercedes, Ferrari and Haas have adopted a pushrod system at both the front and rear of their cars, while Alpine and the new entrant Cadillac have opted for pullrod setups. McLaren has not yet revealed its final configuration and is expected to confirm its choice closer to the car launch and pre-season testing in Barcelona.

The suspension debate is significant because the 2026 regulations place a heavy emphasis on ground effect and airflow management. The geometry of the suspension can influence how the front wing interacts with the car floor, affecting downforce and overall balance. Teams taking different approaches early may gain unique advantages or face risks depending on how well their designs work on track.
