MotoGP is preparing for major technical changes in 2027 with the introduction of 850cc bikes. Former Grand Prix winner Loris Capirossi has warned that the new machines could be up to 2.5 seconds slower per lap compared with the current 1000cc bikes. The changes include smaller engines, a ban on ride height devices, and reduced aerodynamic aids.
Capirossi explained that early simulations suggest lap times will initially be slower, similar to what happened when the sport moved from 990cc to 800cc in 2007. He emphasized that these slower times are expected at the start and that development will gradually improve performance over the following seasons.
