Sepang CEO Shares Ideas for How Liberty Media Can Evolve MotoGP

The chief executive of Sepang International Circuit has shared his thoughts on how MotoGP could grow and evolve under Liberty Media. Azhan Shafriman Hanif emphasized that while the racing itself is already exciting and attracts passionate fans there are opportunities to enhance the overall experience and expand the sport’s reach globally.

Shafriman highlighted the importance of bringing fans closer to the action both at the circuits and beyond. He suggested that creating unique experiences for spectators could make attending a grand prix more compelling and memorable. By offering fans more than just the race weekend, circuits could become destinations that appeal to a wider audience and encourage people to return year after year.

In addition to improving the on site experience Shafriman believes MotoGP should focus on fans who cannot attend in person. He proposed finding ways for remote fans to feel connected to the sport through interactive content special events and other initiatives that extend engagement beyond the track. This approach could help attract new followers while keeping existing fans invested in the championship.

Shafriman also pointed to the potential of combining entertainment and racing to reach a broader audience. Inspired by Liberty Media’s work in other sports he sees value in incorporating concerts activities and marketing experiences that appeal to younger fans and casual viewers. Such enhancements could make the race weekends more dynamic and create a festival like atmosphere that goes beyond the competition itself.

Finally Shafriman emphasized the role of circuits as hubs of motorsport and entertainment. By developing facilities with hotels, retail and leisure options fans could enjoy a more complete visit and circuits could benefit from year round engagement rather than hosting a single annual event. This vision reflects a focus on long term growth and sustainability for both MotoGP and the venues that host it.
