Marc Marquez has revealed that his ongoing injury recovery is the main reason behind the delay in finalizing a new contract with Ducati. The reigning world champion has been in discussions with the Italian team about extending his stay, but he has made it clear that his physical condition must come first before any long term commitment is made.
Marquez suffered a significant shoulder injury during the latter part of last season, forcing him to miss crucial races and undergo surgery. Although he has been steadily working his way back to fitness, he admits that the recovery process has not been as quick as he initially hoped. After years of intense racing and multiple injuries, his body requires more careful management, and that reality has influenced his approach to contract negotiations.
Ducati is reportedly keen to secure Marquez on a multi year agreement, seeing him as a central figure in their MotoGP project. His performances have delivered strong results and reinforced the team’s position at the top of the championship. However, Marquez has explained that committing to a long contract while still evaluating his physical readiness would not be a wise decision. He wants to be completely confident in his ability to perform at the highest level before signing on for several more seasons.
The Spanish rider has emphasized that there are no major disagreements between him and Ducati regarding financial terms or team structure. Instead, the delay is rooted in personal caution. Marquez believes that rushing into a deal without full clarity on his recovery could create unnecessary pressure and expectations. His priority remains returning to peak condition and ensuring that he can sustain competitive performance throughout the demanding MotoGP calendar.
Despite the pause in negotiations, both sides appear optimistic about reaching an agreement once Marquez feels fully fit. Ducati values his experience, speed and championship pedigree, while Marquez has repeatedly expressed his satisfaction with the team environment and technical package. For now, patience seems to be the chosen strategy as the eight time world champion focuses on rebuilding strength and confidence in his shoulder.
