Pedro Acosta Shares Honest Sepang Test Review as KTM Shows Steady Progress

Pedro Acosta offered a straightforward evaluation of his performance and KTM’s development following the 2026 MotoGP preseason test at Sepang. The young Spanish rider rated the overall test experience as six out of ten, showing a balanced mix of optimism and realism as the team continues preparing for the upcoming racing season.

Acosta spent the multi day test working closely with engineers to analyze new upgrades introduced on the KTM RC16. The sessions focused on improving the motorcycle’s overall stability, cornering performance, and aerodynamic efficiency. While the rider managed to post competitive lap times and remain within the leading group of riders, he admitted that there was still room for improvement in both his personal performance and the bike’s overall balance.

During the test, Acosta achieved a strong fastest lap that placed him among the top competitors on the timing sheets. However, he explained that better track conditions and improved use of softer tyres could have allowed him to set even quicker lap times. He emphasized that testing is not primarily about chasing speed but about understanding how the motorcycle behaves in different setups and track situations.

KTM introduced several technical updates during the Sepang sessions, including adjustments to the chassis and aerodynamic components. Acosta expressed satisfaction with the progress made through these changes, noting that the revised chassis showed encouraging signs of improved handling and stability. The team spent a significant portion of the test experimenting with different configurations to gather valuable data that will help refine the bike before the first race of the season.

Despite the positive signs, Acosta acknowledged that some aspects of the motorcycle performed differently than expected. He explained that certain handling characteristics still require further analysis, and the team will continue working on understanding these issues. The test allowed engineers to collect extensive performance data that will be used to improve reliability and consistency across race distances.

The Sepang test also highlighted the highly competitive nature of the MotoGP field, with multiple manufacturers showing strong pace throughout the sessions. While KTM demonstrated noticeable progress compared to previous seasons, rival teams such as Ducati continued to show impressive speed and consistency. The performance gap remains a challenge that KTM aims to reduce through continued development and testing.

Acosta’s honest assessment reflects his growing maturity as a rider and his commitment to long term improvement rather than short term results. He praised the team’s organization and technical direction, expressing confidence that the progress made during preseason testing will help KTM become more competitive during the championship.

With additional testing sessions scheduled before the season opener, KTM will focus on refining the RC16 and strengthening its performance across different track conditions. The information gathered at Sepang provides a solid foundation for further upgrades and strategic adjustments as the team prepares for the challenges ahead.
