USC Scripter Awards Surprise Film and TV Adaptation Nominees

The 38th annual USC Scripter Awards have announced their nominations celebrating outstanding adaptations of books and written works into film and television. Among the most talked about in the film category is Peter Hujar’s Day, a surprise nominee adapted by Ira Sachs from Linda Rosenkrantz’s book. The film stands out in a year that also includes Frankenstein adapted by Guillermo del Toro from Mary Shelley’s classic novel, Hamnet co-written by Chloé Zhao and Maggie O’Farrell from O’Farrell’s novel, One Battle After Another adapted by Paul Thomas Anderson from Thomas Pynchon’s work, and Train Dreams adapted from Denis Johnson’s novella.

On the television side, the series Slow Horses received its fourth consecutive nomination, marking a remarkable achievement in consistent adaptation quality. Other TV nominees include Dark Winds, Death by Lightning, Dept. Q, and Wolf Hall The Mirror and the Light. These nominations highlight both the screenwriters and original authors, emphasizing the collaboration and creativity required to bring literature to life on screen.

The Scripter Awards are seen as a strong indicator of adaptation excellence and often overlap with broader awards season recognition.
