Air Force Introduces AEW 2.0 to Transform Deployment Model

The United States Air Force is implementing a major change to how it deploys combat forces with the introduction of AEW 2.0. This new model replaces earlier deployment concepts and is designed to improve unit cohesion and readiness. Under AEW 2.0, Air Expeditionary Wings will assemble well in advance of deployment, allowing teams to train together as cohesive units for more than a year before they are sent to operational theaters.

AEW 2.0 emphasizes modular and scalable force packages that can be tailored to mission needs. Core elements of command control and base support will be integrated into each wing, reducing complexity and improving efficiency. Traditional staff structures will be replaced by Wing Operations Centers to better manage deployed operations and streamline decision making. Training at home stations will prepare units more effectively for real-world scenarios and enhance overall combat readiness.

The Air Force expects AEW 2.0 to be fully implemented by fiscal year 2027. The model reflects lessons learned from previous deployment experiments and aligns with broader reforms aimed at maintaining a high state of readiness and delivering combat-ready forces efficiently.
