Kyoto Animation is set to release its highly anticipated new anime Sparks of Tomorrow in July 2026. The series will be available globally as a Netflix exclusive as part of the streaming platform's 2026 lineup. Sparks of Tomorrow is based on the light novel Twenty Century Denki Mokuroku by Hiro Yuki and presents a unique take on an alternate early twentieth century Kyoto where technology evolved differently focusing on steam power and early electricity.
The story follows a young boy and girl whose paths cross in this steampunk inspired world as they navigate themes of innovation hope and dreams. Fans can expect the high quality animation and emotional storytelling that Kyoto Animation is known for. The series is directed by Minoru Ōta with series composition by Tatsuhiko Urahata character designs by Kohei Okamura and music by Hitomi Koto.
