The Board of Control for Cricket in India is set to announce the squad for the upcoming three match ODI series against New Zealand starting January 11 2026 in Vadodara. The series will see India face New Zealand in Vadodara Rajkot and Indore as part of preparations for the T20 World Cup later this year.
Rishabh Pant will miss out on selection due to inconsistent performances and concerns over form giving opportunities to other wicketkeeper batters. Senior pacer Mohammed Shami is in contention for a comeback after a long absence since the Champions Trophy 2025. The selectors are also managing the workload of key players Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya who may be rested for this series.
Several young and in form domestic players are expected to be included in the squad with names like Nitish Kumar Reddy Harshit Rana Devdutt Padikkal and Arshdeep Singh in strong contention. Veteran batters Rohit Sharma Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill are likely to lead the batting lineup while Ruturaj Gaikwad and Yashasvi Jaiswal may compete for opening positions. KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan are the other options for the wicketkeeping role.
The final squad is expected to be announced on January 3 2026 and the team will assemble for a training camp ahead of the first ODI. Fans are eagerly awaiting the official lineup and are curious to see which young talents will get a chance alongside established stars.
