Mustafizur Rahman Controversy Bangladesh Players Chief Reports Death Threats

The controversy surrounding Mustafizur Rahman has intensified as the president of the Cricketers’ Welfare Association of Bangladesh has revealed that he has received death threats. Mohammad Mithun spoke out publicly after defending players who were criticised following remarks from a senior Bangladesh Cricket Board official. Mithun described the threats as serious and unprecedented in his experience highlighting the heightened tension within Bangladesh cricket.

The row began when Mustafizur Rahman was released by Kolkata Knight Riders under directives from the Board of Control for Cricket in India amid regional and political sensitivities. This decision sparked anger among fans and prompted discussions about the treatment of Bangladeshi players and the role of cricket authorities. Former captain Tamim Iqbal warned that such events could have long term effects on relations between the two cricket boards.

Mithun emphasised that his comments were meant to protect the interests and dignity of the players and were not against Bangladesh in any way. He revealed that not only he but several other players had been targeted with threatening messages and calls. The threats have raised concerns about player safety and the ability to speak openly on issues affecting the team.

The situation has also affected the Bangladesh Premier League with players boycotting a match and the board dismissing a director amid the protests. There have been calls from within the country to reconsider international travel plans for upcoming tournaments unless security issues are adequately addressed.
