Adrian Newey Expresses Doubts Over Aston Martin 2026 Formula One Car

Aston Martin has revealed its 2026 Formula One car later than many of its rivals leaving the team with little time to test and develop the vehicle. Chief Technical Officer Adrian Newey has admitted that the team faces uncertainty over the new design because of the completely new regulations introduced this year. The AMR26 features a tightly packaged design and unique elements that reflect Aston Martin's chosen approach under considerable time pressure.

Newey explained that the late start of their wind tunnel program put the team behind in the research and design cycle and limited the opportunity to gather real data before the car’s initial runs. With only a single full day of shakedown laps completed so far the team is still analyzing how the car performs under actual track conditions.

The new regulations for 2026 have changed both chassis and power unit rules making it difficult for any team to be certain they are on the optimal path. Newey stressed that while there is doubt at this stage the AMR26 has potential for development throughout the season as the team introduces updates. Aston Martin will now focus on understanding the car’s performance in upcoming tests ahead of the season opener in Melbourne in March.
