MotoGP is set to introduce a minimum salary for riders starting from the 2027 season. The move aims to provide financial security to all riders in the premier class and reduce the significant gap between top stars and lesser paid competitors. Under the new agreement, every rider will be guaranteed a base salary of five hundred thousand euros per year. Teams will still have the option to offer additional performance based bonuses on top of this minimum.
The proposal has been under discussion for several years as organisers and teams seek a fairer system for compensation. Leading riders currently earn millions annually while some newcomers receive much less. The minimum salary clause is expected to be included in the new commercial agreement for the 2027 to 2031 period and is awaiting final approval from the Manufacturers Association and other stakeholders.
