India Demolish South Africa as Proteas Fold for 74 in T20I Opener

What unfolded at Cuttack during the first Twenty20 International between India and South Africa was nothing short of a statement. After being put in to bat, India posted a competitive total of 175 for 6 thanks to a fiery unbeaten 59 from Hardik Pandya off just 28 balls.

When South Africa began their chase their innings quickly unravelled. The visitors folded for a mere 74 runs in just 12.3 overs — the lowest total in their T20I history. Every Indian bowler played a part in the collapse. Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Varun Chakravarthy and Axar Patel each picked up wickets while Pandya too chucked in a crucial scalp.

The margin of victory — 101 runs — speaks volumes. Not only did India defend their total with authority they also sent a strong warning ahead of the rest of the series. The dominance was total from bat to ball.

For South Africa this was a night to forget. Their batters never looked comfortable and could not build any resistance. Early wickets and mounting pressure turned a modest total into a complete collapse.
